Coaching Services
In a dark alley would you rather be alone or with someone who has been down the alley before and is carrying a flash light?
A Coach is the person carrying the flashlight. We're walking down the alley because that is where you want to go, or rather, what you want is on the other side.
Coaches don't do the work for you. We are not therapists or doctors or counselors. We don't prescribe medications, explore childhood traumas, dwell on the past, or try to fix people. Instead, we use a set of tools and techniques in conjunction with you to discover what you really want, and then we help you discover your own path to get there.
Life Coaches are trained to provide mentoring and support to people that are looking to achieve their dreams, goals, and aspirations. One of the ways we do this is by focusing on the present and on the future. We help you figure out what is stopping you now and then how to overcome that hurdle so you can move on toward your personal outcome.
My personal experience has taught me that our Veterans need more than a plane ticket home and a piece of paper that says 'Honorable Discharge.' Veterans need help finding gainful employment and lots of help translating their Military experience into Civilian speak. Luckily, some Military institutions in the last several years have recognized this and have begun to make notable progress in assisting Veterans in job placement in the Civilian market. These programs are still not perfect, but they are making progress and I am grateful for that.
Even with some job placement assistance, out processing is still lacking something very significant. Veterans need to be enlightened regarding the major (and they are major) differences between the Military and the Civilian workplace or they often find themselves in frustration and despair. Prior Service personnel deserve, at the very least, a debriefing regarding what to expect in the Civilian sector.
Coaching can help fill this void. I can support you through this key life transition with individual coaching sessions and I have also created a short seminar outlining the chief subjects that Veterans can be on the look out for in the civilian workplace. I can offer you some simple techniques that, if implemented, could help to alleviate potential areas for hardship in your new workplace.
In other words, I can carry the light while we walk through the alley. See you there!
